Meetup plans

derpyid by suirobo
We have been sort of slacking in keeping the blog updated with the meetups we've been talking about, so have four five at once. We'll be posting more details about all of these as their times approach; this is just some preliminary information.

First up: there's going to be a Dayton meetup on the weekend of February 18-19. Weather permitting (i.e. not a blizzard) we'll have a big bonfire at Grant Nature Park, eating at Archers Tavern, and of course we'll be doing our usual pony shopping. For those of you just joining us from Ohayocon, if you're within an hour or so (or are, like some of us, crazy enough to drive all the way across the state) we'd love to see you again. Huzzah!

On March 3 (nope, March 10), there's a group planning a picnic and Capture the Flag in Columbus, at Fancyburg Park from 11:00 to 4:00. To be honest, I have no idea who these people are yet, but I'm sure we'll find out! Here's the Facebook event for that.

On March 24-25, we will be back in Cleveland. This time we promise to figure everything out before we get there, as much fun as it was herdminding to the wrong park twice last August. This meetup will also serve as Darkly Cute's birthday party, so we'll have cake! (You don't have to bring a gift; being there will be enough.)

We're planning a big brony road trip to Anime Central for April 26-29. The convoy will leave early Thursday morning and we'll be going through Ohio to pick up more bronies all the way up to Chicago. Ohayocon was huge and packed with bronies, and ACen is about twice as big, so this is going to be one massive meetup. Come join as we take over another convention! Who knows, maybe we can hijack one of the panel rooms again. Note that we do have a room reserved that will be $55 per person for the weekend - let us know if you're looking for space to stay; it will disappear quickly. Every suite and double-bed room is already booked, so this is something you'll want to jump on! Keep a watch on the blog; we will have a route plan and further details Soon™.

(On a side note: ACen weekend also covers Pinkie Pie's and Gummy's birthdays, at least according to the original air date for Party of One, so we'll be throwing a party for them as well.)

Last but not least: mark your calendars for May 19-20, when we are arranging a trip to Cedar Point. With a mere 15 people, we can get a great discount, putting tickets at $35 a day. We'll also be getting a hotel room, of course. If you're interested, tell us so that we can make this happen!

    1. YES, yes you are. What part of the state are you in?

    2. I live in Norton. Pretty far North-East.

    3. That's reasonably close to the Cleveland meet. I used to live near Youngstown, if you want to talk really far northeast - and the first meet I was at was the first one in Columbus.

    4. That's true. I must've accidentally overlooked that one. It does look like a bit more of a reasonable distance.

    5. Dude, I live in Norton too!

Holla at me, I can give you a ride. I'm going to ACEN and the Cleveland meetups. I CBF to go to Dayton or Columbus and I'm not sure if I'm going to Cedar Point just yet.

What side of Norton are you on? Closer to Barbertucky or headed Towards Wadsworth, or up by Akron?

    6. I live more on the south side of Norton. About eight minutes from Barberton.

To be honest, Norton is pretty small hehe. I may or may not hunt you down and get arrested for child endangerment.

We're posting this on the interwebs so that all sorts of random people can show up and be awesome.

  7. You might be getting a few Indy bronies for the Dayton meet. We're over in Wayne County, Indiana (about 45 minutes from Dayton) but willing to make the trip. We're still working on the details but things are looking good!

Are there any details for the Dayton meet (mostly times) that we should know so we can plan on when to head out?

    1. We'll make another post with more details some time this week. For some rather arbitrary times, maybe noonish Saturday through 4:00 Sunday?

  8. Hm... Well, I live in the vicinity of the Dayton locations mentioned here. Depending on Saturday's schedule vs. Sunday's, I may be able to meet up with you folks (I work 9-6 on Saturday, unfortunately). I'll keep my eyes peeled for further details. :)

  9. I know the people running the facebook event! i actually have thier skype!

    1. Well we will be going to a bar in the evening for my birthday. But otherwise all ages are welcome to join us.

    2. That sounds good to me, then. :)

  12. I live in the Cleveland area so I will be there for sure. Though I may try to hit the Columbus one. Don't think I will make it to Dayton at all.

  13. Hi, I was wondering how much noticed was needed for the Ceder Point meet? A friend and I would be interested in going but we don't know if we can get off work yet. I know I've never posted here before but I'm excited about actually making a meetup. I've always had something preventing me from going.

    2. derp I cannot brains

I think we have enough people interested that there's no rush... yet. It'd be nice to know by May 1, though.

  14. Turns out I have that Saturday off from work, so I could join you folks in Dayton that day after all. Yay. :) Are there any more-specific details yet, re: times, etc.?

  15. Are any peagasisters coming to the party? ;)

    1. Augh, that word... that is a word that doesn't need to exist. Personally I mostly object to it because it sounds terrible and is awkward to say, but also "bronies" already exists and is a fine gender neutral term (girls can be bros too, I know several!) - and also from a linguistic logical perspective, it's entirely nonsensical when referring to a female fan of the show whose ponysona isn't a pegasus. ;)

Anyway, to answer your question: which party? and yes, there's generally at least a couple fillies at our meetups. Not a whole lot of them, though.

    2. Hey, just wanted to say I am filly AND I am one of the founders of this group. And so far I have been to all of the meets we have done.

  16. Hey! 14 y/o here. Just wondering if you guys felt having a kid or two around would be weird at all. My friend and I have wanted to go to some sort of brony meet ever since BroNYCon, and living in Ohio this looks awesome. Specifically the Cedar Point trip. Maybe not the hotel part, but still this looks like a lot of fun

    1. Sure, you're entirely welcome to come along - just keep in mind we're not really chaperones, so you're more or less on your own.

    2. I'm 16 years old, so I'll be kind of close to your age. Well, I probably won't go to the Cedar Point trip, but still...

      Delete
    3. Starshine we wouldn't put any of you in that position heh. And Nevermore that's a shame, I still don't really know anyone, my age or older, that likes mlp :P

      Delete
    4. Well, there's a few hundred of us spread across Ohio, so there's bound to be at least a couple somewhere in your local area. :)

      Delete
    5. 16 y/o and I am a brony, I don't know where you live but i'm a cincinnati guy, so to answer your question, I am near your age

  17. I've always been hoping to find a meet-up near cleveland! I'll try to come if I can!
