Columbus Super Meetup: Blendon Woods + COSI

Hay, everypony! We've cooked up another meetup for you to attend, and this one's biiiiig, so mark your calendar, call off work, hire a stunt double, and do whatever else is necessary to make sure you're there! We have the largest area at Blendon WoodsSycamore Shelter – reserved for Saturday, October 6th. Sycamore has capacity for well over 100 people (with sheltered seating for about 80), horseshoe pits, swings, a big kitchen area that we definitely plan on using, and ample parking directly nearby. We will be grilling some burgers, probably also ordering a big stack of pizzas, jamming to some music, watching ponies, playing games, and much more. There will also be table space available for artists to peddle their wares.

Come early and stay late; we've got the place for the whole day and will be there from about 9 AM until 7 PM. Afterward, we're not quite sure, but we can hang out somewhere else, catch a movie, invade a local restaurant, or just call it a night. We'll discuss that before heading out and will try to make sure no one gets all lost.

This is also your first (and cheapest!) chance to pre-register for TrotCon next summer: at this meetup, a mere $20 will get you a badge for next year's con, and you won't see that price again ... except maybe as a single-day rate. There will be details and hints of what's in store, some of which won't be posted anywhere until quite some time later.

Still not convinced? Attend now, and we'll DOUBLE your meetup! On Sunday, those interested can join us at COSI. It's open from noon until 6 PM, and we're planning to make the most of the day and be there the whole time. Let us know soon if you're interested in this, as we can get a group discount for parties of twelve or more. For those unfamiliar with COSI, it's a nifty science center full of all sorts of exhibits and hands-on activities. While it's mostly targeted toward children, it also has a lot of cool stuff for people of all ages. (Besides, don't we all watch a certain kids' TV show? ;)

  1. is there any Cincinnati bronies going to this meetup that would carpool with me up there? i don't have my license yet, and my dad wont drive me all the way up to Columbus, so if anyone would give me a ride i would really appreciate it :D

also i would be willing to help pay for gas, if that is something that's keeping someone from going

  2. Hey guys, really want to meet you guys at the meetup in Columbus, but I live in Toldeo about 2 hours away, and dont have a ride, so if anyone in the Toldeo/Sylvania area can swing by,I'd really like to meet somefellow bronies in person ^-^ also, I'm wondering if you're talking about the COSI here in toledo, because if so, I could literally WALK there in 15 minets and see you guys there.

I Really wantto meet you guys! If you guys have any Ideas, give me a ring at 517-417-1014, ask for Tristian ^-^ hope to talk to you soon :D

    1. Errr... there's a COSI in Toledo?

This is about a Columbus meetup, so no, that's not where we'll be. We have discussed a Toledo-area event in the past and might be doing something there this winter. Of course, you can organize something yourself too! :)

    3. Well, if you have any neat suggestions for places to hang out for a few hours (ideally for free) and a good restaurant that could accommodate a rather large group, we'll take them into consideration. That would help a lot in planning an event there :)

  4. Anyone coming to the Blendon Woods meetup going to CG? If y'all are, could you pick me up an AJ card from Enterplay if you aren't picking one up for yourself? I'd really appreciate it. I'd do it myself but I couldn't weasel my way out of working this whole weekend. I'd owe you big time!!

  5. I need a bottom line for how much dough I'll need for this. XD Are there plans for staying the night, or will I need to find my own place?

    1. We're not doing the usual hotel room thing this time, since if let's say 60 people show up, they obviously all won't fit in a room or even two. (plus a couple other reasons - nothing bad, just long-winded.) I'd suggest asking on the forum if anyone is interested in a room share or something.

Darkly and I have a room somewhere, though I suspect that we're going to be quite boring and just do a bit of con-related business, read, and go to sleep like a couple of old farts. I noticed a lot of the big hotels in Columbus are already booked for the 6th-7th. There are a number of other events happening (including the All American Quarter Horse Congress which is like, huge or something) and a lot of the big hotels are already booked which kinda sucks. Guess we should've reserved a small room block somewhere or something; didn't think we'd need to. Oh well, hindsight.

  6. Haha ok! I usually use hotwire to get a cheap room in a small hotel; I'll just do that. Thanks for the info!

    1. Nope, we try hard to keep everything free.

We'll gladly take donations to help cover costs, though, since obviously it does cost us some money to rent the space and get all the food :)
